    Dragons

    Dragons in Selaris are large, powerful, and intelligent creatures, with nearly unlimited lifespans. Individual dragons' physical appearance can differ greatly from other dragons, in scale color, number and shape of horns, etc. The most constantly true thing about dragons is the way that they continue to grow in size, power, and intelligence as they age.

    Dragons were originally created by Arios in the early years of the Material Plane. The answer to whether they were created intentionally or not has been lost to time. The original five dragons —called the Five Cataclysms— still live, albeit sealed away, in 106 M.D. All other dragons are their descendants, in one way or another.

    When the Cataclysms were sealed away in 125 B.E., many dragons waged war on the weaker, mortal races in what would later be called the First Great Dragon War. This war resulted in the death of nearly a billion humans, including the near-complete annihilation of the Kataballo Empire. The war was only brought to an end after the founding of the Jodek Empire by Jodek I, which caused some disagreement among the dragons about whether the humans were truly "lesser" beings.

    After the death of Jodek I, a smaller group of dragons who still harbored hatred for the humans began the Second Great Dragon War, with the assistance of the newly created dragonborn, dragon-humanoid hybrid creatures designed to be loyal soldiers. This war did not cause nearly as much destruction not last nearly as long as the first war, and there has not been a third. After their failure, the dragonborn were largely abandoned by their creators as failures.
