Amp

Introduction

Amp is a God, and a member of The Four. He is the god of fire, redemption, and purification. He is the patron god of Humans, and is responsible for the creation of Halflings and Half-Elves. He is most commonly worshipped by humans, but Amp worship is typically not a dominant religion, even in human-majority population groups.

Amp is bold and courageous, and is quick to discover clever solutions to difficult problems. His ingenuity is often unnoticed by others, but the effects of his stratagems are far-reaching.

He used to reside in the City of Amp in the Elemental Plane of Fire, but now resides in the New High Plane.

History

Origins

The specifics of Amp's creation are considered Deep Lore.
Amp's creation is shrouded in mystery, even when compared to the rest of The Four. While some consider him to be no different from his siblings, the truth is far more complicated.

Amp was originally a mortal human from the early days of the Kataballo Empire. He was fairly well travelled, and so he became aware of the Avatars of Daruga and Levira. Being a devout Kelri worshipper, he gained her favor and suggested that she take an avatar of her own. Instead of following his suggestion, Kelri elevated Amp to godhood, using a portion of her own power. Amp was then placed in Kelri's position, and tasked with being the patron god of the humans.

Amp did not mature into full godhood immediately, and struggled to fill the office for many years.
In the years leading up to the First Great Dragon War, Amp was too weak to hold worship. Citizens of the Kataballo Empire forgot about Kelri due to the Enigma, and Amp's powers were not yet sufficient to regain their belief.

The First Great Dragon War

Amp was weak when the First Great Dragon War began. Amp was not powerful enough to defeat the dragons, and so he was forced to develop a strategy to protect his people. His plan was to allow humans and Dwarves to interbreed, resulting in Halflings. As half-dwarves, these people would be under the protection of Daruga. If Amp could not save his people, then at least he could allow some people to be saved.

This act caught Daruga's attention, who then offered his assistance in the war. Amp led his people south to Antemar, far from the ruins of the Kataballo Empire. Daruga's assistance allowed Amp to grow in power, and he was able to empower Jodek I in both driving back the dragons and in founding the Jodek Empire.

Early Jodek Empire

In the following years, Amp worship began due to his actions in the war. The Church of Amp was founded in Sunkeep City, and Amp was able to grow in power enough that he was undeniably a member of The Four.

The Second Great Dragon War began shortly after the first ended. At this time, Amp chose an Avatar, Tervak, from among the military leaders in the war. Amp worship was wide-spread enough at this time that several Amp-focused paladin groups formed, such as the Order of the Golden Rose. The second war was significantly less costly for the humans than the first war, and the Jodek Empire was thoroughly established.

Due to the peacetimes that followed the war, Amp was able to focus on his edicts as a god. Among them was a criticism of Daruga and Levira for their treatment of their brother Arios. Arios' troublesome actions were caused by his broken state, and Amp believed that he could be rehabilitated. While disagreements over this were persistent, they never escalated to violent conflict.

The Age of Morakh

Like the rest of The Four, Amp was distanced from the Material Plane at the beginning of the Age of Morakh. Without Amp's assistance, Tervak was killed by Khallek. Amp remained unable to affect anything outside of the Elemental Plane of Fire until the planes were reconnected by the Fourtold, which required Amp to choose a new avatar: the dragon Nivlazath. With the assistance of all four avatars, the Fourtold destroyed Morakh.

The New High Plane

Amp was the driving force in the early attempts to create the New High Plane. Amp recognized the need to protect the planes from bad actors, and saw the creation of the plane as the next step in maturing as gods. Additionally, Amp saw the plane as an opportunity to heal Arios.

In 93 M.D., Nivlazath stepped down as avatar, and as of 106 M.D., Amp has not chosen a new avatar.

Relationships

Kelri

As with all information surrounding Kelri, this section is considered deep lore.

Since being elevated to godhood by Kelri, Amp has has a complicated relationship with his predecessor. Kelri largely abandoned Amp, which was a difficult circumstance for the new god. Amp was very devoted to Kelri as a mortal, but he has largely been forced to clean up her messes as a god.

The Caretakers

After their ascension to godhood, Amp quickly grew close to the Caretakers. Amp was empathetic to their situation, himself having been a new god with sudden responsibilities.
